Basement fire with smoke at home in Smithfield

As discussed during the dispatch call, fire units were sent to a home near East Center Street in Smithfield for a reported basement fire with gray smoke that moved into the living room and visible flames. No people or animals were reported in the basement. In a separate apparent incident, officers were advised that a caller in a vehicle was being followed by another car and was told to drive to the local police department.
