Search for missing man near Greeleys Landing Road

On 9/23/26 at approximately 1145 hours the Dover-Foxcroft Police Department was dispatched to 290 Greeley’s Landing Rd for a report of a missing subject. We quickly learned the subject, Mr. Richard Oropeza, whom we know to have Alzheimer’s, was missing from his home and the family had been actively searching for him. An extensive search of the area began with help from the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department, Piscataquis County Sheriff’s Office, the Maine Warden Service, US Border Patrol and the Maine Fire Marshall’s Office. The search included K9 teams and a plane from the Maine Warden Service, multiple drone teams from the Sheriffs Office, Fire Marshall’s Office and DFPD as well as ATV and search teams from DFFD. Officers from DFPD immediately started checking video from nearby businesses and we were able to track Mr. Oropeza around downtown and ultimately to the intersection of Summer St and Harrison Ave. A local resident checked their cameras which directed us to focus on Harrison Ave. A check of the cameras at SeDoMoCha revealed that Mr. Oropeza had walked into the woods at the end of Harrison Ave. With this information, a Maine Warden Service K9 team deployed in that area and was able to locate Mr. Oropeza, who had walked a considerable distance into the woods. Mr. Oropeza was found in good health and was returned safely home after being checked by EMS personnel from the Dover-Foxcroft Fire Department.
