House fire with attic electrical problem contained

Fire crews responded to a house fire in Lake of the Woods. Power to the home was shut off and carbon monoxide levels were checked, with a moderate reading found in the garage near the service panel. One hose line was used to put out the fire, and the flames were brought under control. Water used to fight the fire caused some of the ceiling to fall. Crews then stopped using water and backed out of the building. Based on information from the residents, the likely cause was an electrical problem in the attic. Road crews were called to spread sand or salt on the nearby road. No further crews were needed inside the house while they waited for the fire marshal to arrive.
