Elderly woman treated for low oxygen and possible sepsis

Emergency medical staff responded to Lakeside Special Care for a 64‑year‑old woman with cold‑like symptoms and a wet cough that began the previous night. Staff had found her oxygen level in the 80s and called emergency services. On arrival, she was awake, sitting upright, breathing about 22 times per minute, but her oxygen level on room air was about 80 percent and her blood pressure was low. Her temperature was just under 100 degrees. She has a history of chronic lung disease and had already used her inhaler without improvement. Paramedics gave her high‑flow oxygen by mask, which raised her oxygen level to 99 percent, started an intravenous line, and gave fluids because of concern for possible infection and low blood pressure before taking her to the hospital.
