FARMINGVILLE, N.Y. (PIX11) — A man is facing multiple charges after he allegedly killed his estranged wife, then attempted to kill himself, Suffolk County police said.

Marcos Marques-Leal, 57, is accused of stabbing his wife in their home on Granny Road in Farmingville around 8:15 p.m. on Thursday before turning the knife on himself, according to authorities. A teenager in the home also suffered from a cut on her hand.

Adriana Barbosa, 46, was taken to a local hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said. Marques-Leal had serious injuries but was expected to survive.

Leal faces charges of murder, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.

A man is accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death before trying to kill himself in Farmingville.

It happened around 8:15 p.m. Thursday at a home on Granny Road.

Marcos Marques-Leal, 57, is charged with murder, criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child.

Police said they responded to a domestic call at the home and found Adriana Barbosa, 46, with stab wounds.

She was taken to the hospital where she was pronounced dead.

A teenaged relative, who was in the home at the time, also suffered injuries during the attack and was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.

Marques-Leal was also brought to the hospital and is being treated for serious injuries.

\"Oh, my goodness. Blue and red lights, cherries and berries we call them about a dozen to two dozen cars swooping in here at mega speed. Three ambulances. One left early. Probably didn't need it. One left quietly, unfortunately,\" said neighbor Dr. Richard Dark.

One of the family's neighbors says they were a kind family: a mother and father with children and a dog.

\"Veryveryveryshocked. I never have problems with him, very nice people... never have no problems with him,\" said neighbor Benvinda Viera.

To some on the block, it's a reminder, that you never know what's happening behind closed doors.

\"I don't know their situation if they ever reached out or something like that. But there are avenues people can go to before it gets to that, that stage,\" Dark said.

It's not clear yet what led up to the stabbing.

Marques-Leal will be arraigned at a later date.

A Farmingville woman was brutally stabbed to death inside her Granny Road home Thursday night, police said, in a violent domestic attack that unfolded in front of a teenage relative who was also wounded.

Marcos Leal, 57, is charged with second-degree murder for killing his estranged wife, 46-year-old Adriana Barbosa inside the residence at 144 Granny Road. Cops also charged him with endangering the welfare of a child.

Suffolk Police responded to a domestic disturbance call about 8:15 p.m. and found Barbosa and Leal both suffering from stab wounds inside the residence, as well as an injured teenager.

Barbosa was rushed to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The teen was transported to the same hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Leal, who police said stabbed himself during the incident, was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital with serious injuries.

Authorities have not released additional details about the events leading up to the stabbing. Leal will to be arraigned at a later date, authorities said.

A botched murder-suicide inside a New York home has left a mother dead, a teenager wounded, and a grieving community rallying around two daughters.

Adriana Paulino Barbosa, 46, was fatally stabbed during a violent domestic incident at a residence on Granny Road in Farmingville on Thursday, Feb. 12, around 8:15 p.m., Suffolk County Police said.

Her estranged husband, Marcos Marques-Leal, 57, allegedly stabbed Barbosa, injured a teenage relative inside the home, then turned the knife on himself in what police described as an attempted suicide.

Officers responding to a 911 call found Barbosa and Marques-Leal suffering from stab wounds, police said. Barbosa was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead. The teen was treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Marques-Leal survived and was also taken to the hospital with serious injuries.

“It is with broken hearts that we share the devastating loss of our sister Adriana Paulino Barbosa, a truly extraordinary woman whose life was cut short prematurely,” the Brazilian Gospel Church wrote in a public tribute.

“She was a loving mother, daughter, sister, and friend — a light in the lives of all who knew her. Her kindness was natural, her laughter contagious, and her strength inspiring.”

A friend wrote:

“Those who met you know that your qualities were countless and that you deserved the best this world had to offer. I am deeply disturbed and outraged by such brutality coming from who should be protecting you.”

Church leaders described her death as “another case of brutal femicide we will never understand or accept.”

Following the fatal stabbing of a 46-year-old mother inside her Farmingville home Thursday night, five GoFundMe campaigns have been launched to support her two daughters and family as they cope with the tragedy.

Police said Adriana Barbosa’s estranged husband, Marcos Leal, 57, attacked her inside their home at 144 Granny Road around 8:15 p.m. The violence unfolded in front of their teenage relative, Kayla, who was also injured during the violence.

Barbosa was pronounced dead at Stony Brook University Hospital, where the teen and Leal were also taken for treatment. Leal, who stabbed himself, was charged with second-degree murder and endangering the welfare of a child.

Among the outpouring of support, the Brazilian Gospel Church established a GoFundMe that has raised $23,000.

“It is with broken hearts that we share the devastating loss of our sister Adriana Paulino Barbosa, a truly extraordinary woman whose life was cut short prematurely,” the campaign states.

The campaign further describes Barbosa as a loving mother, daughter, sister and friend whose “kindness and strength touched everyone.” Donations will go toward funeral expenses, legal costs, counseling and stabilizing the girls’ futures, the campaign states.

Additionally, Zoe McAuliffe launched a heartfelt campaign that has raised $10,300 to support Barbosa’s daughters, Kayla and her adult sister Kathellen. It notes that Barbosa was a hardworking, devoted mother who was divorcing Leal and about to start a new chapter.

A GoFundMe campaign established by Barbara Levy has raised $2,400, also honors Barbosa’s lifelong dedication, with Levy calling her a second mother. Another campaign, titled “Honoring Adriana: Support for Her Daughters,” seeks funds for living expenses and bringing Adriana back to Brazil.

The man accused of fatally stabbing his estranged wife inside her Farmingville home pleaded not guilty Tuesday at his arraignment in Suffolk First District Court in Central Islip and was remanded without bail.

Marcos Leal, 57, was arraigned on charges of second-degree murder, first-degree criminal contempt and endangering the welfare of a child. A judge also issued a temporary order of protection.

The charges stem from Thursday’s violent domestic incident in the family’s Granny Road home, cops said.

A campaign organized by the church has raised more than $25,000, describing Barbosa as “a truly extraordinary woman” whose “kindness was natural, her laughter contagious, and her strength inspiring.” Other efforts launched by friends and longtime employers have generated additional support as the sisters move forward without their mother.

Leal remains in custody. His case is scheduled to return to court at a later date.
