Motorcyclist injured in collision with another vehicle

A 26-year-old man was riding a motorcycle at about 35 to 40 miles per hour when he collided with another car near UCSD and Scripps La Jolla. He was thrown from the motorcycle. The motorcycle and his helmet both had moderate damage, and the other car had its front bumper torn off with airbag deployment. The rider was wearing a helmet, stayed alert and oriented, and denied loss of consciousness and head, neck, or back pain. He had road rash and abrasions on the front of his body but otherwise had stable vital signs and no obvious skeletal injuries. Emergency personnel strongly advised him to go by ambulance to a trauma center, but he chose to leave in a private vehicle with family and go to an emergency room on his own, after being warned that his injuries could become more serious and that he could call 911 again if needed.
