Elderly man with severe abdominal pain transported to hospital

An elderly man is experiencing severe abdominal pain that began the previous night and worsened in the morning. He was previously treated for diverticulitis and given pain medication which temporarily helped. In the evening, the pain returned and did not improve with more medication. The man is being transported to the hospital emergency room for further care. He is not vomiting or nauseous and has normal bowel and urinary habits. His vital signs are stable, but he rates his pain as very severe. He has declined pain treatment during transport to better communicate with the doctor.
