Teen bicyclist hit by car near bank on Governor Drive

Emergency medical staff report a collision between a car and a bicyclist near Chase Bank off Governor Drive in San Diego. The patient is a 16-year-old boy who was riding his bicycle at about 13 miles per hour while wearing a helmet when a sedan pulled out from the bank exit. He struck the front wheel area of the car, went over the hood, and landed on the other side. Responders found him sitting upright on the asphalt next to the vehicle. He is alert, answering questions, and can stand with some help. He mainly complains of pain in his head, abdomen, and right ankle and has abrasions on his right ankle and abdomen. The bicycle handlebars appear to have broken off from the impact. He denies headache and back pain, has normal vital signs for heart rate, blood pressure, breathing, and oxygen level, and shows no visible deformity to the right ankle with intact movement and sensation in all limbs. His mother is on scene, and he is secured with a collar for neck support while being transported to the hospital for evaluation of possible minor trauma, especially abdominal pain.
