Child reports assault by mother at apartment

A child called from an apartment on Reserve Street to report that her mother was hitting her and choking her. The child said she had bruises and was locked in her room. Her grandmother arrived and waited outside the apartment. An uncle then came on the phone, said he would stay with the child, and remained on scene with her. Emergency medical services were staged nearby, and officers were advised that the mother owns a firearm and has a prior history noted in records.
