Neighbor reports threatening gesture at apartment

At Tamarack Apartments near South Oaks Street, a caller reported that a neighbor walked past and made a hand gesture she perceived as threatening. She also told dispatch that her stepson carries a knife, has schizophrenia, and may run from police. Officers were advised to call her first instead of going directly to her door so she could choose a meeting place. During this radio traffic, dispatch also broadcast a separate report of a recent shoplifting at a retail store, where a suspect left through an emergency exit and drove away in an unknown vehicle.
