Building fire with gas and power hazards in Virginia

Fire crews respond to a building fire near Old Keene Mill Road in Virginia. Units coordinate the use of a nearby hydrant and clear the first and second floors. Due to snow and ice, they move carefully while setting up fire hoses. Police are requested to close lanes on Old Keene Mill Road to keep traffic away from the scene. Crews report that the exterior fire is out, but there are signs of a possible gas or electrical explosion under a walkway that caused part of a wall to blow out. A rescue unit checks the building for heat or gas readings and finds no heat or smoke in a basement unit behind the fire, which contains a dentist office X-ray machine. Firefighters are warned to stay back from metal railings and steps because of the risk of an electrical fire. Utility workers are called, and crews inside the utility room shut off the interior gas supply and then focus on turning off power in the main electrical room. Operations continue as the scene is stabilized.
