Gas-fed exterior fire at office building

Fire crews respond to reports of a basement fire at an office building on Old Keene Mill Road. Units confirm the actual incident location as the Cary building at 8136 Old Keene Mill Road. They find a gas-fed fire burning on the outside of the building, near an elevated walkway, with no clear extension into the interior. Access routes and hydrant use are adjusted because the dispatched address was different from the true location and because of snow and ice creating slippery conditions. The main entrance over the affected area is closed off since fire is burning underneath it, and crews protect the building exterior while avoiding direct extinguishment until the gas supply can be controlled. Police are requested to shut down lanes on Old Keene Mill Road, and gas and power companies are called to secure utilities. The exterior fire is eventually reported out, though there is evidence of a possible gas or electrical explosion under the walkway that blew out a wall. Crews continue to check inside the building for any gas readings or hidden fire extension.
